Gothic/doom band, they have been around for over a decade (I have no idea exactly how long). Their lead singer and bassist Pete Steele used to be in a thrash band known as Carnivore.
These guys have some classic albums, Bloody Kisses, October Rust, World Coming Down and Life is Killing Me. Their style has become a little less sparse/doom over the years, but not by much. They have a penchant for covering popular songs in the style of gothic metal. You haven't truly enjoyed songs such as "Summer Breeze" and "Day Tripper" until you've heard these bastards ruin them

Alot of their subject matter tends to be darkly humoured, though World Coming Down is a much more sombre and dark album, dealing with cocaine abuse, self loathing, isolation, etc.
They aren't all doom though. They sometimes bring out a slightly thrash, almost punk sounding song from time to time. These songs include "We Hate Everyone" and "Kill All The White People." This might be attributed to Steele's previous work in Carnivore.
The albums I mentioned above are all worth a spin.
On a personal note, I personally believe Pete Steele is a much underrated singer. I find it very rare in any band to have a singer who can hit bass notes so easily (listen to Christian Woman off of Bloody Kisses and you'll see what I mean).
